- What Could Be Causing Your Nosebleeds?
Are you someone that suffers from frequent nosebleeds?
While nosebleeds are a pretty common occurrence and something most people shouldn’t be worried about, you may actually be a bit more concerned if you start to notice them happening more frequently. If you are someone who suffers from nosebleeds rather often, then you may be wondering what’s going on. Our Thousand Oaks, Simi Valley, Oxnard and Camarillo, CA, otolaryngologists are here to provide you with the insight you need to better address this issue if it happens to you.
In most cases, being exposed to dry air or picking your nose are two of the main reasons why you may develop a nosebleed. This is not a cause for concern, as the problem will go away on its own. Of course, these aren’t the only reasons you may develop a nosebleed. If you have a sinus infection (both acute and chronic), a cold or allergies you may also notice nosebleeds more often.
If you use are exposed to certain chemical pollutants this can also cause your nose to bleed, as can taking certain medications like blood thinners. Polyps and tumors are more rare causes of nosebleeds.
So, when should you be concerned about your nosebleeds?
It’s a good idea to visit our Thousand Oaks, Simi Valley, Oxnard and Camarillo ENT doctor if you notice a nosebleed after an injury (e.g. car accident), if there is a significant amount of blood, if your nosebleed last longer than 30 minutes or if you trouble breathing as a result of your nosebleed.
Even if you are able to stop your nosebleeds, if you are still experiencing them rather often, this is a good time to turn to our ENT doctors to find out what’s going on. Even a self-limiting problem such as this one has a cause, and it’s important that we get down to the root cause to stop the frequency of your nosebleeds.
